5 Standards for Installing Oil Filters

Replacing the oil filter is a common maintenance operation, but why do oil leaks occur? In addition to the unfortunate use of inferior oil filters, the main reason is installation issues.

In theory, replacing the filter during routine maintenance is not complicated, but often the simplest tasks test the details of the operation. Today Filton oil filter supplier summarize 5 standards for installing an oil filter.

Apply oil to the sealing ring of the oil filter on top of engine

Before installation, a small amount of oil should be applied to the sealing ring of the filter to provide lubrication and prevent dry friction between the sealing ring and the filter installation seat. Applying oil to the sealing ring of the filter helps soften the rubber material of the sealing ring and reduce friction.

If the sealing ring of the oil filter is not oiled before installation, the sealing ring of the oil filter on top of engine cannot slide smoothly in the groove and on the base during installation and rotation.

The sealing ring may be squeezed out of the groove, stuck on the groove wall of the sealing ring or stuck outside the groove, causing poor sealing. In the case of relatively large rotary torque, the sealing ring may be damaged, causing oil leakage.

Tighten the oil filter on top of engine according to the specified number of turns

Different filters have different shapes, sizes, and matching models, so the number of turns required to rotate them have differences during installation.

To address these differences in installation characteristics, the outer shell of the filter usually indicates the number of times required to rotate the filter oil filter after it is in contact with the base. This step can usually be done by hand.

Tighten the oil filter on top of engine according to the specified torque

If a torque wrench is required for the final installation, the tightening force of the filter should be strictly in accordance with the standard torque required by the product, generally 20Nm.

If you ignore the regulations and blindly operate, it is easy to cause excessive tightening torque of the car's internal filter machine filter, which may cause damage to the filter shell, fixing bolts, rubber sealing rings, and filter seats. Moreover, when the filter is installed, excessive tightening torque will make it difficult to disassemble during the next maintenance replacement.

Do not overfill the oil filter on top of engine with oil

Note that when adding oil, ensure that the level is between the upper and lower limits of the oil gauge. When too much oil is added, the oil level in the oil pan will become very high, causing the crankshaft's rapidly moving blade rod to come into contact with the oil and inflate it, producing foam that affects engine power.

At the same time, oil may enter the combustion chamber and participate in combustion, causing burning of the oil. Moreover, the excess oil will generate excessive pressure inside the engine and may overflow through various gaskets and seals, causing oil leakage.

Start the engine at the top of the oil filter to check for leaks

After installing the filter and adding oil, start the engine and run it at idle speed to circulate the oil fully. Then, observe and wipe to check for leaks at the installation joint of the filter.

After confirming that there is no oil leakage, turn off the car and let it stand for a period of time, then check the oil level again to ensure normal operation before replacing the car's internal filter machine filter to complete the operation.

To avoid oil leaks after replacing the oil filter, choosing a quality guaranteed genuine oil filter is a prerequisite. Although the replacement process is simple, make sure not to operate arbitrarily. Each link has precise installation requirements, so it must be operated in accordance with specifications.
